5 things to boost your metabolism

We all get to a point in our life where our weight gain starts to creep up on us slowly but surely. It may have been caused by stress, by a busy lifestyle, our age, or because we put our health on the back burner.
Thankfully our metabolism can be increased naturally by doing a few simple things. Here are 5 things you can do to help boost your metabolism naturally.

  1. Don’t skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! A lot of people skip breakfast because they do not feel hungry, or they don’t have time, they don’t know what to eat, or they skip breakfast to try to save calories. Studies have shown that skipping breakfast can lead to a slower metabolism as well as weight gain. Some of the best ideas for breakfast include a protein shake, yogurt and granola, or oatmeal.
  2. Eat more protein. More fat is burned, and more weight is lost when you eat more protein. Best ways to get your protein is from lean meats, chicken, fish, egg whites, and protein powder.
  3. Limit your refined grains. Foods such as breads, pastas, cakes, pastries and cookies are all foods that should be very much limited if you are trying to boost your metabolism as they all cause the body to produce more insulin. Excess insulin = excess fat.
  4. Eat foods with a low Glycemic index. Foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains (bread and pasta) and beans are great for helping with weight loss, and preventing type 2 diabetes, colon cancer and constipation.
  5. Go for Green! In the morning, instead of coffee….have a green tea! Green tea has many health benefits including helping with weight loss.

These are 5 simple things to help boost your metabolism, however, it is still important to watch your calorie intake, eat properly and of course exercise!!
