Dream Board

dream boardDream Board-Where dreams become reality!
Envision your best life!

People have created dream boards, (also known as a vision board) for years now using images from magazines and flyers on cork boards/poster boards/construction paper. They can serve as a daily reminder of what your aspirations are, and what you want your life to be like. They can help you stay on task and keep you accountable to meeting some of your goals.

I have always been goal driven, and have always found it handy to write my goals and dreams down on paper. If there was something I wanted I would write it down so I wouldn’t forget. As silly as it sounds I had even written down all the characteristics I wanted in a man….. as if I was “dream boarding my husband”. No word of a lie, but within months of writing down those characteristics and thinking of them daily, I had met the man who I am now happily married to. Seems crazy, but it works. Looking back in time I had no idea what I was attempting to do, I just wanted to write down my “requirements” so that I would daily remind myself of the qualities I was looking for.

My husband and I are very much on the same mindset and both see the value in this, as he has done similar things of writing out his goals and aspirations. The law of attraction was at work as well there, or God’s wonderful plan! Wink

We later found it more advantageous to make it more visual–with pictures for us to see daily. We would write down our goals and aspirations in life, as well as things that we wanted, and would put a time frame on our goals to ensure they were realistic and attainable. It also helped keep us accountable.

What to put on a dream board?

There are many things you can put on a dream board, here are a few examples:

  • Things that you want – get a picture of the exact item, or very close to it
  • Things that you want to happen
  • Places you want to travel, sights you want to see
  • Goals that you want to achieve (health, work/business-a promotion, personal development, financial, etc)
  • Words, or motivational quotes

How to make a dream board?

  • Gather magazines to find pictures, or search online for images to print out. Put onto a cork board, piece of construction paper…whatever you can find and get creative!!
  • If you are not a crafty person, or if you don’t have a printer, another idea is to create a Microsoft Word document with the pictures

Dream board tips:

  • Put it into a place where you will see it every day. Ideally in the morning and before you go to bed. You want to start and finish your day thinking about these things. Whether you look at it or not, your subconscious certainly is.
  • If you are married or with a partner complete this WITH THEM!! Not only can this be a bonding experience, but it is also so very important to know that you are both on the same page…planning for the same dream future!
  • Have fun with it! This is supposed to be a fun experience planning for your future…and dreaming BIG!

Within two years of marriage we have revamped our dream board 3 times- as we have completed goals we had set for ourselves. We put our into categories more or less…  These were the categories that were important for us: Health, Business, Real Estate, Travel, “Toys”-things us grown ups want, as well as words and quotes to inspire us. Within each category we broke down more goals (smaller ones) and had pictures surrounding it all.
Looking at our board now I realize that it is once again time to revamp it! I plan to make the things that are of utmost importance to us, the things we truly desire, to be the largest portion of the board. I think then it becomes the forefront of your mind.

It’s amazing how putting things in front of you, visualizing it, and thinking about it daily will slowly but surely lead you to the things you desire, and the life that you wish to live.
I’m not saying that just because you look at something everyday and think about it, that it will come to you. You must put action towards these things. Figure out HOW you can achieve these things. It will all come in time. Smile

What do you want in your life? What images represent your dreams? What words inspire you to move forward? Capture them with your Dream Board. Get clear about your goals, your hopes and your vision for your life. Make the connection to turn your dreams into reality every day.

Goals. There’s not telling what you can do when you get inspired by them. There’s no telling what you can do when you believe in them. There’s no telling what will happen when you act upon them. – Jim Rohn
