Spring is here!! And with that comes…Spring Cleaning!!

Welcome Spring, and welcome Spring Cleaning!

Who doesn’t love spring? The birds are chirping, the snow is melting (or has already melted) and we get to enjoy some lovely weather. As soon as the weather gets nice I like to open the windows and get a jump start on Spring Cleaning!! Call me crazy, but I really love getting things all freshened up around the home. Now…How about saving some money and helping our environment by cleaning….the all natural way!

Over the years I have learned how harsh and dangerous some chemical cleaning products can be. Why do we continually spend more money than necessary on cleaning products that introduce toxic chemicals into your home? Simple and inexpensive ingredients, (that most people already have at home anyways) can be used to clean the home top to bottom!!

I have included some “DIY” (Do-it-Yourself) recipes to mix up your own all natural cleaning products. Check your cupboards…do you have: Baking Soda? Lemons? Vinegar?

Lemons (lemon juice) alone is such a wonderful cleaning agent. The acid in lemon juice helps neutralize hard water deposits, dissolves buildup of dirt, and tarnish on silver.

Basic Baking Soda All-Purpose Formula
1/4 cup baking soda
1 quart water

Basic Tub & Tile Cleaner
1 2/3 cups baking soda
1/2 cup liquid soap (try to find liquid glycerin, if possible)
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons vinegar
Squeeze bottle with a tight fitting cap

Basic Hardwood Floor Cleaner Formula
4 cups brewed tea (use two or three teabags to a quart of water)
1 teaspoon Castile soap or dish detergent
1 large spray bottle

Basic Carpet Stain Formula
1 cup vinegar
1 cup water
1/2 cup baking soda

Basic Laundry Soap
2 cups grated soap (choose a vegetable-based, natural, fragrance free bar and grate in a food processor)
1 cup washing soda (non-toxic and similar to baking soda, found in the laundry section of the supermarket)
1 cup borax

I hope you enjoy these ideas. I will be providing more mixes and all natural cleaning ideas in the next few weeks to keep the spring cleaning topic top of mind!! We all need a little nudge or reminder every once and awhile!!
Happy Spring Cleaning!!
