Traveling Without the Children!

Traveling-without children!!

My husband and I got back from two trips in January. One was business, and the other was pleasure. Neither one of these trips did we bring along our 2 year old. I know some would ask why not bring them along, but I ask why bring them??

As mothers especially we spend so much of our free time with our children that we need the trip away to rejuvenate and re-energize!! Not to mention it is great for the relationship with your partner! When else do you get to spend so much one-on-one time with each other?? Whether it be the plane/train/car ride, the relaxation by the beach together, intimate dinner conversations, peaceful walks, or simply enjoying one and others company like you did in the early years of your relationship.

I remember on my honeymoon my husband and I were at a resort where we saw a few parents bring their children young and old with them. This did not look like a vacation to me whatsoever! Seeing parents rocking children to sleep in strollers, dealing with screaming babies, keeping the little ones sheltered from the sun, and constantly chasing after them. This is no longer a relaxing vacation.

Our 2 year old son Carson was able to spend quality time with both sets of Grandparents while we were away, how awesome is that!! He develops stronger bonds with them, gets spoiled, and becomes a more independent not having mom constantly around.

Needless to say, I missed my son dearly, but it also made me appreciate him even more when we got back home!! Absence does make the heart grow fonder! One tip I will suggest is to bring photos (hard copy, on phone or on camera) that you can at a moment’s notice look at and smile.

I’m not saying I will never travel with my children, because I most certainly will, I just think it is very important for moms out there to know it is OK to leave the little ones at a babysitters (preferably Grandma/Grandpa’s) while enjoying a much needed vacation.

  1. I hear you…loud and clear!! Last week I went with hubby to Pittsburgh for business for 3 days. We drove down, so had lots of time to ourselves. While hubby was at work I did whatever I wanted, it was glorious!! I did miss our 2 year old (who was in Gramma’s very capable hands), but I loved every minute of being away…oh the adventures of a childless mother!!

    • It can be so hard to leave them when they are so young….but so worth it is right!! 🙂 Glad you had a great time away!

  2. Amen! Agree with you 100%. My husband and I always make sure we go away once a year without the kids…to help re-ignite our love for one another. Focusing just on us! 🙂 If you haven’t tried it, I recommend it. There will of course always be a time we will take our kids on a trip as well, just not every time.

    • Yes, of course….you want to include children in your travel sometimes…but its great to get away and reconnect!! 🙂
